ARLINGTON, VA September 1, 2022 – Freedom Technologies, Inc.  (“FTI”) announces the hiring of seven technology and legal associates.  John Bush, Owen Crandall, Eric Coop, Elena DeJaco, Chris Galarza, Yaegy Park, and Carlos Rosende will provide policy, legal, and technology support to FTI’s clients.  According to FTI CEO and President Janice Obuchowski, “FTI is growing to meet the increasing market demands in our core areas of expertise.  We are extremely fortunate that our wonderful team will be augmented by these highly talented individuals.”

John Bush will serve as a Legal and Economics Associate. John is a recent joint George Washington University Law School and Johns Hopkins University graduate with experience working in telecommunications, change management, and technical writing.  John’s previous experience includes employment with several federal agencies, including internships with the George Washington University Law School, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office of General Counsel, and the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Intelligence and Research.  John focused his legal education on emerging technology and policy issues.  He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia.

Owen Crandall will serve as an Engineering and Policy Associate.  Owen has worked in support of the federal government process for the review of telecommunication systems and certification of spectrum support.  With his participation in this process, he has become familiar with the regulations and procedures within the NTIA Manual, gained insight on the process of managing the electromagnetic spectrum on a national scale, and mastered many facets of the mechanics of radio waves.  Owen holds Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Eric Coop will serve as a Senior Operations Associate.  He served for more than 20 years in the U.S.  Navy, notably aboard ship as a Combat Systems Officer and as a Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat and Information Systems (C5I) Officer, where he gained practical experience in spectrum management and operation of emitters.  In his last assignment at the Pentagon, Eric worked in the China/Taiwan/Mongolia Division within the Joint Staff’s Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (J5).  He holds a Master’s in International Relations from Salve Regina University and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from the U.S. Naval Academy.

Elena DeJaco is returning to FTI as a Legal Associate this fall.  Building upon her computer engineering background, at Freedom Technologies Elena has worked on numerous topics including 6G, global spectrum policy, and federal legislation.  She has built an extensive background in spectrum policy through previous internships at the FCC’s Wireless Telecommunication Bureau and at Qualcomm Technologies.  Elena expects to receive her Juris Doctor from the George Washington University Law School in May 2023.  She currently holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Chris Galarza will serve as a Legal Associate supporting Space and Electromagnetic Spectrum Policy.  Chris has leadership, team management, and national security experience.  He served in the U.S. Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer for nine years, including eight on active duty before transitioning to the U.S. Navy Reserve.  His sea tour assignments included Division Officer assignments, and a tour as the Antiterrorism Officer, where he managed the ship’s force protection organization of 225 Sailors.  Following his sea tours, Chris was selected to become an Amphibious Warfare Tactics Instructor and served on a Strike Group Staff as the tactical adviser to the commanding Admiral, the Assistant Space Resource Coordinator, and managed tactical training for 24 subordinate commands.  He continues to serve in the Navy Reserve and is currently assigned to the Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center Fleet Training – Atlantic.  Chris is a 2010 graduate of the University of Maryland – College Park and a candidate for a Juris Doctor at the American University Washington College of Law (WCL) Class of 2024.  At WCL, Chris is the President of WCL’s Civil-Military Society and on the American University Law Review.

Yaegy Park will serve as a Legal Associate. She is currently a law student at the Georgetown University Law Center.  Yaegy is a research assistant for the Center on National Security and has worked on projects concerning misinformation, technology, and the attendant national security implications.  She has served as a judicial intern in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and assisted with drafting opinions and detention memoranda.  Prior to law school, Yaegy graduated from The Juilliard School and earned a Master’s and Bachelor’s in violin performance.  She has won multiple international competitions and currently manages her violin studio. Yaegy is on the Georgetown Journal of International Law and is the Vice President of the Korean American Law Student Association.

Carlos Rosende, a member of the Harvard Law School class of 2023, will serve as a Legal Associate.  Carlos previously served nine years as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy.  His assignments included four years as a division officer aboard a destroyer based in Yokosuka, Japan, where he led a team of sailors responsible for the operation and maintenance of shipboard systems, sensors, and weapons, and three years as an intelligence analyst in Washington, D.C.  While in law school, Carlos completed an internship at the Massachusetts Senate’s Office of Senate Counsel and an associateship at a law firm in Boston.  Carlos is a 2012 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he earned a Bachelor’s in History.
